Hidden in a protected courtyard within Florence’s historic city centre, this garden provides our client with a lush, private retreat from the monumental stone-clad palazzi of the city during the hot summer months. Focused on creating an outdoor extension of the house in the form of a “green” room –we organized evergreen plant species as clean, structural, forms in which there is a strong sense of floor plane (lawn and festuca), walled enclosure (vine covered walls and holm oaks), and ceiling (tree branches overhead). Clipped box hedges guide the eye towards specific focal points as well as frame the plunge pool.
